Leonard Sweet believes Christians (in the same vein as our society as a whole) have focused too much on leadership. We spend alot of time and money on raising up, training and developing leaders, but we seldom spend time investing in followers. Jesus calls us to be followers–even pastors and other “leaders.” in I Am A Follower Sweet holds no punches against buying the business model of emphasizing leaders in the church. Clearly, business practices have failed Wall Street, why would the church want the same?

I appreciate that Sweet has tackled such a tough topic. He has an important message and good things to say. It’s definitely not Sweet’s best work. At times I felt it was a bit long, saying the same thing in various ways, but overall the book was a worthwhile read.
